Kendrick School's 147th Birthday
This year we celebrated an incredible 147 years of Kendrick, 147 years of girls' education! Kendrick School, came into existence in 1877. It is named after its founder, John Kendrick who was a 17th century merchant and clothier left a bequest, a sum of money – some £12,000 to the towns of Reading and Newbury to provide employment and education for girls and boys. In 1877, our school first opened in Watlington House, in Watlington Street.
This day is about celebrating our school, our history and with that we celebrate girls’/women’s education and the history of women’s emancipation. For the last 147 years, our school has been able to provide an education to girls and women and set them on a path in life.
Like most birthdays, we celebrate by having a cake. We had a cake competition, where each form made a celebration cake for the occasion, judged by Ms. Kattirtzi and Mrs Rock.
As we remembered the history of our school, there was also an appreciation of our community, our school, that Kendrick School is a place where students can focus on their studies, where they can flourish and grow, where they achieve and accomplish great things, where lifetime friendships are made and where there are opportunities to succeed and have a good start in life.
Floreat Kendricka! May our school continue to flourish.
