The theme for 2022 was Communication. Humans have the unique ability to communicate through spoken and written language. Our amazing ingenuity and creativity have also resulted in the development of a wide range of other ways to communicate using science and technology, different art forms and transportation networks.

The Federation national competition for 5–12-year-olds was centred around this question - Have you ever wondered what it might be like to talk to an animal you are fascinated by or chat with a famous person from the past? A few of our students were among the 800 entries in November, and we were delighted to receive an email from the organiser at the start of this year, informing us that a Kendrick student had won the 11-12-year-old category with an interview with William Shakespeare - Congratulations Roberta from Year 7!

Andy Seed, a children’s author, and illustrator commented, ‘Roberta’s interview was outstanding. She was one of the few young writers to play with the concept of time as part of the piece and did this amusingly too. The interview is superbly written, really letting the subject tell us a lot and giving Shakespeare a witty, imaginative voice.’

We are all very proud of Roberta’s writing. Ms Kattirtzi and Ms Fieldsend (Head of English) were impressed to read Roberta’s entry and present her with her prize last week.
