  • Widening Horizons Workshops

We were delighted to welcome students from primary schools in Years 3,4, 5 & 6 to Kendrick, who are participating in our Widening Horizons programme. The students took part in some wonderful workshops led by our staff along with some of our Year 10, 11 and 12 students.  Some amazing hand embroidery was created in a sewing workshop whilst the topic of our identity and what makes us who we are was considered in a Sociology workshop.  Some beautiful posters were made around the question “What makes me me?”

Year 5 students were invited to join a new Year 5 Book Club led by our Head of English.  They were given a book to take away and read, to be reviewed/discussed at the next workshop, which will be held just before the Easter holidays.  All the students were very engaged and attentive at the workshops whilst their parents enjoyed refreshments and a Q & A session with some of our Widening Horizons staff.

This event was part of our Widening Horizons project, which aims to work with children and local primary schools to raise the aspirations of local children.  Kendrick School has the highest gold award from The Sutton Trust, having been recognised for the multiple systems we have in place to support access for children eligible for pupil premium funding within our Widening Horizons project.
