  • National Schools Badminton Champions 2024

On April 20th, we represented Kendrick School in the 2024 National Schools Badminton Championships. Our team triumphed in both age categories, with all eight of us securing gold medals.

Returning after a five-year hiatus, the National Schools Championships saw a massive participation of 700 teams from 38 counties across the four events. Sponsored by Babolat, the final took place at the National Badminton Centre from April 20th to 21st, with 32 teams fighting for gold.

In the Key Stage 3 competition, Meghna, Mudra, Nikita and Emily dominated with outstanding performances. They topped their box with two 5-0 wins against RGS Newcastle and Soham Village College, and a 4-1 victory against Pate’s Grammar School. In the semifinals, they defeated King Edwards VI High School for Girls with a 4-1 win, losing only one doubles match. Transitioning to the final round, they ultimately triumphed over Nonsuch School for Girls with a resounding 5-0 win.

In the Key Stage 4 category, our team: Avani, Roma, Dhruva, and Simone came together to win 5-0 against Hodgson Academy and Kesteven and Grantham Girls School. Despite a closely contested match, we narrowly fell to Tapton School with a score of 3-2. Undeterred, we went into the semifinals, securing a thrilling victory against Colchester County High School for Girls, with a 5-0 win. In the final match against Pate’s Grammar School, we delivered an outstanding performance, emerging victorious with a 4-1 triumph to claim the National Schools title.

Overall, we are incredibly happy with our results, and we would like to thank the PE Department for their support and encouragement throughout the whole tournament.
