Delancey Chess Challenge

Finishing just before the end of last term, Chess club students have been taking part in the UK’s biggest Chess Tournament for schools: the Delancey Chess Challenge.

Students from Year 7 – 12 took part, playing 7 rounds of matches on a weekly basis.

Winners played winners and so on, so that over the weeks students were playing similar standard opponents. The final two rounds saw the top places being contested by Arti (Year 12) Saswathi (Year 9) and Divija (Year 8). Divija was the overall winner, but the final matches were very close. The Year 7 overall winner was Shriya (7ABM) who played some excellent chess, only narrowly being defeated by the older students.

As they progressed, students won badges and prizes, and everyone received a certificate.

The club also showed their appreciation to Year 13 students Aashi and Nachammai who have been key organisers for the last year and a half. We wish them good luck in their A Levels, University and future careers, and thanks for all their work running chess club.
