Kendrick Student Leaders
The 18 Kendrick Student Leaders (KSL) make up four separate committees, elected by students and staff, to represent their school. The four committees are: Curriculum and Current Affairs Committee, Student Wellbeing Committee, Community Committee and House System Committee.
These students undertake specific roles working with younger students in the school organising and supporting inter-year and interhouse events in school. The KSL has an important role in representing the school, both in school and at out of school events. They are excellent Ambassadors for the school.
Curriculum and Current Affairs Committee
We are excited to be your Curriculum and Current Affairs Committee and aim to foster a positive learning environment. We want to make sure students at Kendrick are well-rounded and informed individuals through and beyond academia, no matter what their year group. This ensures that they are able to engage and capable of voicing their own opinions confidently on what’s going on in the wider world, during their Kendrick years and beyond.
We will continue bringing in external speakers to inform students about the different career paths available, and hope to provide new opportunities to help supplement academic learning as well as students' understanding of the wider world. We plan on restarting the Kendrick Student Leadership Team YouTube Channel to provide an authentic glimpse into our school’s curriculum and lessons, tips for GCSEs and A-levels, and interviews with students and teachers to aid current and prospective students. We also hope to be able to host drop-in sessions where we discuss current geopolitical and nation-wide issues and their impact on people.
Student Wellbeing Committee
As this year’s Student Wellbeing Committee, we will strive to do our very best in our roles to assist with school-life balance. Our focus will continue to be on fostering a culture of wellbeing throughout the school, and we are eager to bring new ideas to help us achieve this. We aim to promote an improved recognition of the importance of maintaining good wellbeing, as well as removing the stigma surrounding mental health, so students are open to discussion and strive to improve. We will be continuing previous hits such as Just Dance and weekly activities at the Base, as well as introducing a variety of new fun activities and initiatives. For example, art therapy sessions such as Bob Ross paint-along and origami.
Community Committee
As your Community Committee, we are passionate about fostering our unique Kendrick spirit and are excited to bring our school community together with a series of events throughout the year.
Alongside our iconic Kendrick classics such as the lip sync battle and teachers dodgeball, we hope to showcase all the incredible talents in our community through sports competitions and talent shows. Within the wider community, we have made several fundraising efforts for remarkable organisations and charities, such as the Whitley Food Cupboard and Royal Berks Charity. We hope to deepen our impact by introducing new initiatives such as pen pal programmes, workshops and student-led magazines.
We are looking forward to celebrating and continuing to build our community with you all!
Cedars House Captains
As the upcoming year’s Cedars House Captains, we are so excited to have the opportunity to work with the students from all across the school, and provide them with new, and fun, experiences that will help enhance their experience here at Kendrick. We will continue to focus on working towards creating amazing inter-year friendships between the students by providing them with both old and new House events such as House Drama and Sports Day.
We aim to create a positive atmosphere both inside and outside the classroom and encourage friendly competition between all the houses, and we are looking forward to working to widen our current itinerary so that all students feel that there is at least one house event they want to attend, no matter how large-scale.
We are looking forward to being able to work with everyone here at Kendrick in the upcoming year, and we hope you are all able to create fun and unique memories.
Palmer House Captains
We are extremely honoured to have been given the responsibility of being your Palmer House Captains this year, and we hope to carry on the legacy left by those before us. We are excited to uphold our traditional events and competitions such as Sports Day and House Drama, but also to introduce new opportunities to inspire and spark other interests.
Our main goal is to ensure that students here at Kendrick can access every opportunity to have fun, make memories and grow as a person, so we are eager to work alongside all Year groups to ensure this. However, we will also need a bit of your help! So, we encourage you to come along to House Events- whether you're a pro-footballer, avid actor or superb scrabbler, we would love to see you there, even if it's just to support your friends! Whatever you choose to get involved in, enjoy yourself and take the chance to make new friends with your fellow Palmer Llamas!
On that note, we hope to see many of your familiar faces at the events that are on the way this year, and we hope you have a blast enjoying what we have to offer. Thank you!
Sidmouth House Captains
As this year’s Sidmouth House Captains, we aim to encourage integration between the years for a strong house community spirit. We want to help everyone to get to know students outside their form and year group and make fond memories with old and new friends.
The events are a great opportunity to express yourself, and we endeavour to include an even wider range of house events for different interests, so that everyone finds an event that excites them. Whether it’s a lead role in House Drama or playing a round of chess in House Chess, we hope everyone finds something they enjoy, because ultimately the house system is about every student having fun!
We are looking forward to meeting everyone at upcoming events, and we hope you all have a great time taking part.
